Meet Jennifer Long
Jennifer Long has been creating artistically her whole life! Throughout her schooling years, she trained full-time to be a professional ballet dancer. During all those years of training in the Ballet world, she also dreamed of designing costumes! Every day she would walk by and peek into the Ballet Costume Wardrobe – what a MAGICAL space! She learned to sew from her mother and grandmother (who owned a fabric and knitting store) and Jennifer began sewing and designing dance skirts, costumes and knitted ballet legwarmers for herself and other dancers.
Fast forward, Jennifer and her husband are raising their 4 children on a country property outside a small, rural, farming town on the Canadian Prairies. She began designing dolls for her own children 15 years ago when she was looking for a healthy and positive role model doll! Growing up in the professional ballet world, she experienced an eating disorder, so it was extremely important to her to teach her own girls to love their bodies and play with dolls that promoted healthy body images! Soon, others began requesting these handmade dolls, and so she created BEE SEW INSPIRED!
Jennifer has a unique set of aesthetic skills for doll making, because of her years in dance and costume design and fitting.
This journey has inspired her to make a positive difference by designing Modern Rag Dolls and Doll Patterns for others to be EMPOWERED! She has immersed herself in all aspects of doll design and is the founder of the Modern Rag Doll Membership and Inspired Doll Making. Jennifer has her own line of sewing and embroidery doll patterns and quilt patterns as well as has made patterns for individuals, organizations, fabric designers and fabric companies, authors of children’s books and international companies for mass production.
Jennifer has a unique set of aesthetic skills for doll making, because of her years in dance and costume design and fitting. Her passion is in child development, and that is why she works to inspire the next generation through play, imagination and empowerment!
